Paula Gooder is one of today’s best-known New Testament theologians; a scholar, teacher and writer. In 2019 she became Chancellor of St Paul’s Cathedral. Before that she was Director of Mission, Learning and Development at the Diocese of Birmingham. She was previously Theologian in Residence at the Bible Society after being a lecturer in New Testament and Biblical Studies at The Queen’s Foundation, Ripon College, Cuddesdon and the University of Oxford. She holds honorary positions at the Universities of Durham and St Andrew’s, and is a Visiting Lecturer at Kings College, London. Paula has also written a number of books including Journey to the Empty Tomb, Body: Biblical Spirituality for the Whole Person, Heaven and Phoebe: A Story. As Chancellor, Paula has responsibility for leading the Cathedral’s expanding theological and learning programme, as well as relating these creatively to engagement with the arts and with St Paul’s mission and outreach.
