Aleksandra Myslek (piano)
Friday 29 May 2026
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Polish pianist Aleksandra Myslek traces her rich and varied musical career with a recital that evokes her influences and experiences. From the much-loved Chopin’s Heroic Polonaise to honoring her late teacher, Hamish Milne, with glimmering works by Medtner, she also nods to her best friend, fortepianist Emil Duncumb, with rarely heard, charming Mozart variations ‘Salve tu, Domine’. Some of the most inspired Liszt transcriptions of songs and operatic repertoire serve as an invitation into her love of voice, and Chopin’s own favourite work, the deeply romantic Ballade No. 1, will serve as a final acknowledgment of her Chopin-filled early education.
Chopin Polonaise in A flat major, Op. 53

“her playing is full of rich fluency, thrilling virtuosity, whether in stillness, excitement, or intoxication.” — Sir John Tomlinson
Aleksandra Myslek is a Polish collaborative pianist and répétiteur recognised for her growing presence in the classical music world across Europe and China. Her musical journey began with a deep admiration for Chopin, which was acknowledged early on when she received a special prize from the National Fryderyk Chopin Society at age nine. Her education at the Royal Academy of Music, under the guidance of renowned professors such as Hamish Milne, Leon Fleisher, Fou Ts’ong and Ferenc Rados, and mentorship from Julius Drake, helped shape her artistic identity.
“It took a large musical personality to partner with (Gygli) effectively, and Aleksandra Myslek is such a pianist.” — Seen and Heard International
Her performance career is distinguished by appearances at prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, Palau de la Música, and Carnegie Hall, and participation in elite young artist programs like the Leeds Lieder and the Britten Pears Programme. In 2025, her performance of Schönberg’s Pierrot lunaire was described as „played with great artistry and energy, with wonderful sound, always alive and clear, and the rhythmic control that was exemplary”. Aleksandra was a guest on BBC In Tune, alongside violinist Eleanor Corr and singer Joanna Harris. She also performed as a guest artist for the BBC New Generation Artists concert, accompanying Erika Baikoff, with the performance broadcast by BBC World Service on New Year’s Day 2026.
“Outstanding talent” — Julius Drake
In addition to performing, Aleksandra has built a sturdy reputation as a répétiteur, working with opera companies such as Opera Holland Park and the Royal Opera House, also collaborating with composers on new operatic works. She holds staff pianist positions at Trinity Laban and Guildhall School and, as a City Music Foundation Artist, she recorded a debut disk for Delphian Records with baritone Florian Störtz, reviving the works of émigré composer Robert Kahn. Together with Florian they took Kahn’s music and the wider German and French repertoire on tour to Mexico. Her excellence as a collaborator has also been recognised with several accompanist awards, including the Leach Award, Edith Poulsen Prize and Brenda Webb Award.
