Space by Luxmuralis
Tuesday 17 - Saturday 21 February
A cosmic sound and light experience created by Luxmuralis.
Following its incredible sell-out success in 2023, we invite you to once again, ponder our relationship with planet Earth and beyond in Space, an amazing sound and light experience. Join us as we take you on an incredible journey through space to see galaxies emerge and discover humanity’s ambition to venture into the unknown.
The exterior of St Martin’s will be illuminated with sound and light, drawing you in to admire the majestic architecture of the church and enjoy the spectacular imagery which tells the story of human exploration.
Inside the building the projections will continue in our stunning Crypt, allowing you to walk through the light-artworks and be immersed in the installations which are all set to bespoke music. You will finally enter the Church amidst an atmospheric soundscape and see footage of the first rocket launch, explore the creation story and the Big Bang, and view the final image of Earth as if looking back from space under a galaxy of stars. It will be dazzling journey across the universe, exploring the cosmos in a spectacular display.
Just as Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins stated: “We are so tiny in the system of things.”
Artist and sculptor Peter Walker from Luxmuralis, says their vision is “bringing to life the stories and concepts of our time in a way that stained glass did generations before [and] it is wonderful to play a part in the contemporary life of St Martin’s, bringing this new artform and adding it to these centuries of artistic and cultural history.” (BBC News)
