The Conversation: Armistead Maupin

Tuesday 10 February 2026

7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

50 Years on Barbary Lane

Come and join the party as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first publication of Tales of the City. Armistead Maupin’s stories of life in the fabulous LGBTQ+ culture of 1970s San Francisco first introduced the beloved trans landlady of 28 Barbary Lane, Anna Madrigal and her tenants.

Chaired by Peter Florence.

The interview lasts for an hour followed by a 30-minute public Q&A, then a book-signing and informal conversation. It is also being live-streamed. For livestream tickets, visit here.

Want to join the author for dinner after the event? We have arranged a special post talk supper event in the presence of the author for up to 60 guests. The ticket price includes a welcome glass of fizz, a two course dinner, a signed copy of his book Tales of the City and the chance to hear more from this legendary man. Once you have added a ticket for the Armistead Maupin talk to your basket, you will be invited to upgrade to the full talk-and-dinner experience (subject to availability).

Buy all nine conversations for just £45 – a saving of over £40! You can book any combination of in-person and online livestream tickets – the offer will automatically be added when you reach the checkout – but please note that it will only apply if you buy all nine at the same time.
