On the 8 November at St Martin-in-the-Fields remembered 169 people who had died homeless or vulnerably housed in London in the last year. Every year Don Pollard, who has known homelessness himself, creates a new art work for this service expressing the theme. In this beautifully observed, poignant and moving short video UCL student film-maker Peilin Li follows Don as he prepares for this service at St Martin’s. She captures something of the humanity and dignity and yet the tragedy of the occasion. The music Never failed me yet is played by composer Gavin Bryars and Ensemble. It is a based on the recording of a homeless man singing.
