St Martin’s Voices: Brahms Requiem See more

When Johannes Brahms’ exquisitely moving Ein deutsches Requiem premiered in Bremen Cathedral in 1868, it was complemented by a performance of the beloved Handel aria I know that my redeemer liveth. Inspired by this historic musical pairing, Cecilia McDowall’s unaccompanied choral setting reinterprets the familiar Messiah text, emphasising the themes of tenderness, solace and resilience it shares with Brahms’ masterpiece.

Rachel Podger: The Guardian Angel See more

Celebrated as “the unsurpassed British glory of the baroque violin”, Rachel Podger presents a captivating programme of music for unaccompanied solo violin. With her trademark meticulous and masterful interpretations, Podger explores works by J.S Bach and Giuseppe Tartini alongside the hauntingly beautiful ‘Guardian Angel’ Passacaglia from Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber’s Mystery Sonatas, the earliest known piece for solo violin.

Art Deco Trio: Gershwinicity See more

The roaring twenties are poised for a dazzling comeback, thanks the toe-tapping talents of the Art Deco Trio. Brimming with textural richness, this programme from the Academy of St Martin in the Fields combines Mozart’s majestic Symphony No 39 in E flat with an assortment of orchestral miniatures. These picture postcards of musical variety take us on a journey through Italian baroque, Norwegian folk influences and Czech modernism to the enigmatic Shakespearean terrain of Sally Beamish’s Ariel.
